The decision by authorities not to shut Barbados down drew the ire of many Barbadians on Thursday morning.

However, director of the Department of Emergency Management, Kerry Hinds, explained that all protocols followed were based on the guidance given from the Meteorological Office.

Hinds told the media on Thursday during a briefing at the department’s headquarters in Warrens, St Michael, that they always sought to ensure an informed decision was made because public safety was first and foremost.

Some reaction on Nation Facebook queried what parents would do if they had to leave their children at home without supervision. (AD)
