The National Council on Substance Abuse’s (NCSA) Life Education Centre (LEC) is refurbished and ready to roll for another year.
Yesterday the British-built LEC was officially relaunched with a repaired body and new décor. Wendy Greenidge, the NCSA drug education officer for primary schools, said the LEC had accommodated more than 30 000 primary schoolchildren from every primary and nursery school in Barbados since 2006 but as a result, the 40-foot air-conditioned containerized classroom on wheels, the only one of its kind in the Caribbean, was in need of repair.
This was where L&N Workshop Inc. and Freekz Customz came in. The two companies transformed the LEC to the tune of $10 000, but manoeuvring the LEC was still a lot of trouble. As such, there is a plan to one day build another LEC locally with its own engine.
Now the trailer is ready to continue its mission, with its first stop of the new year scheduled to be Mount Tabor Primary in St John. (CA)
