There will be no elections at this year’s annual Barbados Labour Party (BLP) conference scheduled to take place from tomorrow to Sunday at the Grantley Adams Memorial School.
Word of this has come from the current chairperson of the party’s annual conference, Senator Santia Bradshaw.
During a brief Press conference at the BLP’s Roebuck Street head office yesterday to announce the date for the political party’s 73rd annual conference, Bradshaw said “a number of persons have withdrawn from the elections and therefore none of the posts are being contested”.
The executive for the incoming year comprises party chairman Jerome Walcott, first vice chairman Dale Marshall, second vice chairman Maria Agard, third vice chairman Wendell Callender, general secretary George Griffith and treasurer Douglas Skeete.
The theme for this year’s conference is Rescue, Rebuild And Restore.
Noting that this year’s theme was “carefully” chosen, Bradshaw said the committee was “very conscious of the country’s perilous economic state [and] we recognise that as a political party there is a significant input which we can make”.
The conference will kick off with an awards ceremony tomorrow and “the business component” will take place on Saturday and Sunday. (MM/PR)
