MANY NURSES DO not feel appreciated.
And according to president of the Barbados Nurses Association (BNA) Blondelle Mullin, this is the greatest challenge facing the profession.
Speaking this morning at a Nurses Week Seminar at the Barbados Hilton held under the theme Nurses: A Force for Change: A Vital Resource for Health, she said they should be encouraged to perform at their highest potential in order to make best use of nurses in the health system.
“Have any of you ever wondered what would happen in the health care institutions if nurses were to withhold their services for a day”,” she asked.
Mullin called on nurses to hold together and unite and see the bigger picture, which is that the BNA as a body can be a tremendous force for change in Barbados and even further afield.
“Let us think of ourselves as a body in BNA and not as individuals and think of ways to make a difference and let government as well as other stakeholders sit up and give nurses their due,” Mullin said. (LK)
