Pentecostal churches don’t need an economic crisis to start working on aid programmes for their congregations.
Bishop Dr Gerry Seale, of the Barbados District of the Pentecostal Assemblies of the West Indies (PAWI), made this point yesterday, in answering a question about help for members adversely affected by the tough economic times.
He told the DAILY NATION that pastors of the 25 assemblies had not yet related to him concerns about people in their congregations being laid off because of Government’s sweeping retrenchment programme.
However, Seale said most, if not all, assemblies always had in place programmes “for assisting people going through difficult times”.
These included collection and distribution of foodstuff and assistance with utility bills, he pointed out.
There was also help with house repairs. Where necessary, the assemblies had moved to “ramp up” the aid, Seale said. (TY)
