GENERAL SECRETARY of the Barbados Workers Union, Sir Roy Trotman, has announced his retirement from the International Labour Organization (ILO).
In a Press briefing last Friday at Solidarity House, Harmony Hall, St Michael, he said he had reached a new phase of his life.
“At the last international labour conference, I had retired as a member of the governing body of the ILO and as the chairperson of the Workers Group [within that organization], so I am back home in retirement and able to retire myself, that is to now put on new tyres, for other kinds of work,” he said.
Sir Roy said he had spent 20 years on the ILO governing body with the last nine years as the chairman of the Workers Group, the first black person and first person from a small island to hold such a position.
He said this was all in addition to his previous retirements from the Caribbean Congress of Labour and the Congress of Trade Unions and Staff Associations of Barbados as he said no one had a right to remain in any one position.  (CA)
