AUBREY?TOWLER fell three runs short of what would’ve been a maiden Elite Division century as he batted LIME?to 269 on the opening day of their match against Brathwaite Construction Republic Bank St Catherine.
St Catherine would’ve been hoping to dismiss the visitors earlier after they won the toss and took an early wicket in just the second over but Towler anchored the LIME?innings with a patient 97.
Towler and captain Randy Thomas featured in a second-wicket partnership of 57 before the latter became the first of four catches in the outfield for former Barbados wicketkeeper Patrick Browne. He was caught at long-on off left-arm spinner Derick Bishop.
Although he kept losing partners, Towler remained sound and built considerable partnerships, reaching his half-century off 112 balls with six fours and a six.
Wicketkeeper Cyprian Payne weighed in well with a fine half-century, striking six fours and one six, while Daley Hurley got an unbeaten 19.
Towler, who hit ten fours and a six off 210 balls, was eventually the seventh wicket to fall when he gave a bat-pad catch to Omar Phillips off Kenroy Williams, who was the most successful bowler with five for 60.
