If you whip the men, you have to whip the women. This is the position of social activist and founder of Men Against Naughty Dead Beat Mums Barbados, Kammie Holder, who is yet again calling for equity in dealing with parents who renege on their responsibility in supporting their children.
However, public relations officer of the National Organisation of Women, Marsha Hinds-Layne, is contending that there were many people who wanted to be parents but did not know how to because of historical reality.
Both Holder and Hinds-Layne were responding to statements by Minister in the Ministry of Housing and Lands and Member of Parliament for St John, Charles Griffith, in the House of Assembly last Tuesday.
He said there was a correlation between the number of men who ended up before the law courts charged with murder and other criminal offences, and boys whose fathers “donated sperm” and did not play an active role in their lives. (SB)
