The chairman of the Sanitation Service Authority (SSA) Jeffrey Headley has resigned.

This confirmation comes from Minister of the Environment Trevor Prescod. He was speaking tonight at a St Michael East constituency meeting held at St Giles School.

Prescod said he wished Headley, who took up the post in July of this year, all the best in his future endeavours.

“I express my gratitude to the chairman for the short period of time that he was with us. I wish him all the best in the future. As Minister of the Environment, I would not tell you that there’s anything in any concrete way that there’s anything distasteful that has occurred. It’s a resignation that’s coming in,” he said.

Prescod stressed that should need be, he would also be willing to make recommendations on Headley’s behalf in the future.

“If there was any position that was to open up that I think he would be suitable, I would still make recommendations on his behalf. And in any way I can support him, I will,” he said.

Headley was part of a team who travelled to Halifax, Canada to purchase new garbage trucks but was subsequently summoned back home by Prime Minister Mia Mottley.

Prescod also confirmed that someone new is already earmarked for the position.

“I already have my hands on the individual. He’s a person I believe is best fit for such a position. I’m not going to make mention of him now because I would be prejudging what the Cabinet is likely to say. By tomorrow I would be making the recommendation for the new appointment,” he said.
