Waste haulers have not been paid for the last six months of the joint garbage collection initiative with Government, and they are struggling financially.
And come this week, said chairman of the Waste Haulers Group, Anderson Cherry, he will be meeting with representatives from the Ministry of the Environment to resolve the matter.
The issue has come to light as some neighbourhoods cry out for a lack of garbage collection, and as Minister of the Environment Trevor Prescod revealed the Sanitation Services Authority (SSA) was “doing extremely well with limited resources” as it has stepped up its collection to three shifts a day.
Cherry, who has been outspoken on many waste issues and has been battling others, said the waste haulers were under severe financial stress because of the non-payment. (HLE)
