Relief is coming to communities that have been suffering from inadequate garbage collection service.
Yesterday, Minister of the Environment and Drainage, Dr Denis Lowe, unveiled a fleet of new vehicles, including nine compactor trucks, part of a $4.5 million injection to the Sanitation Service Authority (SSA).
The SSA has also purchased two new skip carriers as well as service vehicles as part of a fleet upgrade programme.
Lowe explained during a Press conference at the Mangrove Pond Landfill in St Thomas that the increase in vehicles did not give SSA a full complement to meet growing demands. As a result, a strategy to further expand capacity to at least 45 trucks had been put in place.
“We want to ensure at the end of the day that no area of Barbados is left out and the management staff has been working assiduously to ensure that that becomes a reality for the SSA and its services. (AH)
