PM Mottley busy at climate change summit

Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley hit the ground running shortly after arriving in San Francisco on Tuesday where she participated in a number of events at the Global Climate Action Summit.

The following day of her arrival, she was involved in the Changing the Climate Conversation: Enabling Women’s Participation to Advance Climate Justice. The session was co-chaired by three distinguished women: Mary Nichols − Chairperson of the California Air Resources Board; Patricia Espinosa − Executive Secretary of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) and Mary Robinson − President of the Mary Robinson Foundation, Climate Justice.

Mottley, accompanied by Permanent Secretary Alies Jordan, then attended a Bilateral Meeting with Executive Director of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and Under-Secretary General, Erik Solheim at the Tilden Hotel.

Mottley also attended and participated in a high-level Talanoa dialogue, the purpose of which was to share stories, build empathy and to make wise decisions for the collective good. The dialogue was convened by the Fijian Presidency.

The Prime Minister also convened a bilateral meeting with New Zealand’s Minister of Climate Change, James Shaw and met with the Executive Secretary of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, Patricia Espinosa. She also attended a dinner hosted by Michael Bloomberg, former Mayor of the City of New York. (CM/PR)
