Polo fans might have to wait just that much longer for the start of the season.
Today’s opening round of the inaugural Johnnie Walker 4-Goal Challenge will likely be postponed to later this week after persistent heavy showers left the grounds at Lion Castle waterlogged.
It’s a disappointing setback for the highly anticipated season-opening competition that was set to see six teams in action today, including pre-tournament favourites The First Group.
The darlings of the polo world were slated to start their season at 4:30 p.m. against a competitive Big Dogs side led by the talented Philip Tempro.
Apes Hill and Buttals are scheduled to play in the day’s opening fixture at 2 p.m. while Clifton tackle Whitehall/Rugby at 3:15.
In the event that no play is possible today, the teams will open match play on Tuesday at Apes Hill, where Clifton are expected to face The First Group in the first game while Buttals take on Apes Hill 2 in the night cap.
Today’s games are likely be rescheduled for Friday at Lion Castle. (JM)
