Sagicor UWI have won a protest against a controversial loss to ICBL Empire that has restored their unbeaten record and positioned them to complete a fourth successive LIME Elite Division title as early as this weekend.
The sixth round match between the teams ended in controversy at Bank Hall on July 22 when the game was awarded to Empire, who benefited from a penalty of four runs because of UWI’s slow over rate.
In correspondence from the BCA to UWI – copies of which were obtained by the WEEKEND NATION, it was acknowledged that mistakes were made in the calculations.
“We refer to our earlier correspondence dated July 31, 2012 acknowledging a complaint from UWI protesting the result of the match Empire vs UWI and attach for your benefit copies of the reports from umpires Jonathan Blades and Ryan Willoughby.”
