As part of activities to mark Airport Week, a number of staff members of the Grantley Adams International Airport participated in a Foreign Objects Debris (FOD) Walk on Wednesday.
It was an effort to help clear the tarmac of any small objects on the parking apron and the runway for the aircraft.
Corporate communications specialist and chairman of the organizing committee, Keith Goddard, said the exercise was to educate airport staff about the importance of having a clean tarmac, parking area and runway for the incoming and outgoing air traffic.
He explained that small objects could be hazardous to the planes, so the area was mechanically cleaned every day and the tarmac was inspected regularly.
The inaugural week marks the 74th anniversary of the landing of the first commercial flight at Seawell Airport on October 19, 1938. As part of the event, employees also received free blood pressure checks from the Ambulance Centre. (RL)
