Janaé Kellman is the new junior minister of tourism.
The St Michael School student beat 15 other contestants in the Ministry of Tourism’s annual speech competition held at the Lloyd Erskine Sandiford Centre yesterday.
Kellman presented her F5 Key strategy to improve customer service in the tourism industry. Outlining the five points as fast service, follow-ups, friendly staff, focus and freshening up of facilities and services, she said the strategy would not only refresh but renew customer service.
Second place went to Jermaine Als of Harrison College, while Miracle-Ann King of Deighton Griffith School was third.
Kellman said she intends to pursue a career in tourism.
Parliamentary secretary in the Ministry of Tourism Senator Irene Sandiford-Garner, who delivered remarks, said that while Barbados was renowned for its friendly people, the level of customer service delivery was often far from acceptable when compared with other destinations.
