One jailed, one on bail

JAMAICAN Jeffrey Jermaine Thompson was jailed today, while Barbadian Sylvan Oscar Franklin was released on bail for offences related to the trafficking and importation of marijuana.
The pair appeared in the Oistins Magistrates Court where 23-year-old Thompson was fined $30 000 or 18 months in prison for importation. However, he was unable to unable to pay the fine.
He was convicted, remanded and discharged after pleading guilty to possession, possession with intent to supply and trafficking two-and-a-half pounds of cannabis after arriving at the Grantley Adams International Airport on Monday.
The drugs were found concealed in his underwear.
Meanwhile, Police investigations into the same incident led them to Franklin.
The 42-year-old of Drax Hall Hope, St George appeared before Chief Magistrate Pamela Beckles and pleaded guilty to trafficking.
He was fined $30 000 to be paid in three months or 18 months in prison. He was granted bail in the same amount with one surety. (PR)
