THE?HUNDREDS?of self-employed Barbadians who refuse to pay income tax will soon come under the microscope of the Inland Revenue Department.
Customer service manager at the department, Neville Clarke, told the DAILY?NATION, it was only a matter of time before self-employed people such as tailors, cosmetologists, food van operators, mechanics, masons, carpenters and tilers are brought into the tax net.
“We still take people to court for not filing and that is something that is still ongoing. The many self-employed people who don’t comply have not slipped under the radar.
“We know who they are and we will systematically get to everyone. Now that we have the electronic system, that is going to assist us in that regard.
Rest assured on that,”?he said.
Barbadians are still to receive their income tax refunds for this year but Clarke gave the assurance that the first set of monies will be coming
in a few weeks.
