CASTRIES, St Lucia – Prime Minister Stephenson King has announced that general elections will be held on November 28.
King, speaking at a rally of his ruling United Workers Party (UWP) at the William peter Boulevard, said that Nomination Day will be November 17.
He said that the Parliament will be dissolved on Monday, and that he has already advised Governor General Dame Pearlette Louisy of his decision.
The UWP is expected to face a challenge from the main opposition St Lucia labour Party (SLP) and at least two other political parties.
In the 2006 general election, the UWP won 11 of the 17 seats in the Parliament with the SLP, which had been in office for the past ten years, winning the other six. But the government’s majority was decreased to one seat after two legislators resigned. (CMC)
