CXC ‘flaw’

Sixty students at Christ Church Foundation School will have to resit the Caribbean Examinations Council’s (CXC) geography exam and pay another $40 each to do so.
That is if the Barbados Secondary Teachers’ Union (BSTU) does not succeed in reversing what it terms the “unfair” position taken by the council.
The BSTU called a Press conference at its Belleville, St Michael office yesterday to speak on the issue, saying it had resulted in psychological suffering for the head of department involved and in students not receiving grades because of a failure to submit the five required student-based assessments to CXC.
BSTU president Mary Redman said that in the past two months the union had written CXC registrar Dr Didacus Jules four times, sent emails and tried “on more than one occasion” to contact him by telephone to supply him with information he might not have had knowledge about, and also to schedule a meeting with him to address the situation.
