Staff of THE NATION returned to the classroom last Friday when the company staged A Back To School Day.
It was a day of fun, as staff turned up for “school” clad in their uniforms and accessories – ribbons, lunch bags and haversacks included.
Many of the island’s schools were represented – including Alexandra, Queen’s College, Springer Memorial, Harrison College, Coleridge & Parry,  Alleyne, Combermere, Ellerslie Secondary, Foundation, St Leonard’s, The Garrison, Roebuck Secondary (Louis Lynch), The Lodge School and St Stephen’s Primary School – among others.
The ringing of the “school bell” just after 8:15 a.m. signalled the start of school day as “students” were summoned to prayers. Those who were not attired in their “school uniforms” or “games clothes” handed in written excuses, while those who were “late for school” received a scolding.
Along with the singing of a morning hymn and inspection by “senior teacher” Publisher and CEO Vivian-Anne Gittens, some “students” were also “disciplined” for wearing “short skirts”, jewellery, and make-up to “school”.
Just around noon, the bell rang out again signalling the start of “school meals” which consisted of biscuits (served with cheese), milk and juice.
Games and various “extra-curricular” activities formed part of the day, which was organized by Marketing Executive Valerie Hope and her team in the Marketing and Communications Department.
