Government Member of Parliament Hamilton Lashley is calling for an urgent meeting involving community leaders and the signing of a truce to end the upsurge of violence in the New Orleans/Chapman Lane, Bridgetown areas.
The former Government advisor on poverty and long-standing community activist who was behind a truce that halted tensions in The Pine some years ago told the MIDWEEK NATION: “There’s a need, not only for a truce, but an overall assembly, an urgent summit of community leaders, community-based organizations, the Police Force, the Barbados Youth Development Council, the Barbados Youth Action programme and other stakeholders.
“We need a practical intervention. Leave out the psychologists and them!”
Lashley spoke against the background of recent shootings in the two districts and the police’s move to increase their presence there. (RJ)
