THE 31 EMPLOYEES of Trimart Supermarket in St Martin’s, St Philip, have been given a lifeline as the Ministry of Transport and Works has moved to resolve a situation that threatened their jobs.
President and chief executive officer of ANSA McAL Barbados, Nicholas Mouttet, told the MIDWEEK NATION yesterday that the company received a letter on Monday from the ministry, a day after the workers’ plight and that of the community were highlighted in the SUNDAY SUN.
Mouttet said the ministry indicated that it could not honour the company’s claim for loss of revenue caused by nearly two years of unfinished work on a road that started at the nearby district of Rock Hall but had abruptly halted from Cane Garden to St Martin’s last April.
However, he said it indicated it would endeavour to finish the road “in the early part of the year”.
“As such, we will continue to try to deal with the situation. Assuming that they meet their commitments there will be no closure of the St Martin’s branch,” Mouttet stressed.
