With hard times predicted in 2014, some people are already taking matters into their own hands to tighten their belts and cut down on their food bill.
That was among the talking points among a number of people, including some young women, who took to the fields in Moonshine, near Market Hill, St George, to reap some sweet potatoes yesterday.
“You can get between seven and ten pounds a rod costing $15, rather than buying them in the supermarket for $3 a pound,” one woman shouted out.
An older man nearby simply quipped: “Boy, it’s a sign of the times.”
