COU COU & FLYING FISH: Wannabee feeling the sting

A MAN who once lived big abroad off the public purse is now like a fish out of water here, after taking a six for a nine.
He came to this sorry state when he miscalculated the result of a big event. He is now so disgusted with himself that he recently confided in friends he messed up big time and wished he could turn back the hands of time.
Cou Cou understands this wannabe politico was living and working as a big-shot overseas through the generosity of his beehive connections. Actually, he was plucked from obscurity and given the pick to the great annoyance of many in that camp as they said he was really not one of them. And this claim seemed to have merit when he was retained in the post when there was a changing of the guard.
During those years he was living like a lord. He drove an expensive European-made vehicle and lived in an upscale condo downtown in the sprawling metropolis he was stationed.
However, in the run-up to the quinquennial event, he was overheard saying that a bee swarm seemed likely and this would run the fatted calf from the field. So convinced was he of this eventuality, that he returned here to help pave the way for the Bees.
From what Cou Cou was told, when the political bosses called, asking for him to come back and assist them, he was a no-show. That’s when they were told he was already back here.
Well, after the threatening Bees were exterminated, this man hurried back to his post. But it was too late for him. He was cast aside. Now he is paying the price of counting his chickens before they were hatched.

A victim of inflation
A POLITICO found out first-hand just how tough things are here when the usually large crowd that throngs his Old Year’s night fete stayed away because, we were told, they could not handle the increased entry fee.
From what we were told, the fee for the annual bash was doubled.
The organizer explained that this had to be done as things tough and costs have risen.
Cou Cou has been told that since he did not receive the usual large response, the politico is hoping that this trend of not supporting him and what he is associated with does not continue to the next poll.
We shall see.

An anti-union move?
SENIOR BUSINESSMEN are wondering if the move to let go skilled employees from permanent jobs by a certain business – but express the desire to rehire them as self-employed contractors if they are interested in returning – is part of a deliberate policy to blunt the influence of the trade unions.
The businessmen said the foreign-owned business which did this are known not to be union-friendly in their own country, and this recent move could be part of an overall strategy.
Cou Cou understands that those who were axed were verbally told they would be happily accommodated again, but would have to work under contract and be responsible for paying their own National Insurance, pension and other benefits.
Sign of the times?
