GOVERNMENT IS moving to stop schoolchildren from abusing its no-bus-fare offer by taking multiple trips during the course of the day, joyriding on Transport Board buses.
Minister of Education Ronald Jones said yesterday that technology was being obtained to monitor when students boarded the buses with a view to limiting the number of rides.
“There are children who take the buses paid for by the state and they get off every three bus stops,” he reported. “All this will stop. We are working on technology to ensure that every child on a bus can only use it once [during morning and afternoon periods].”
Parents, guardians and students would have to pay for any other rides, he explained.
