PORT-OF-SPAIN, Trinidad (AP) – The government of Trinidad and Tobago is investing $93 million to buy six helicopters and four drones to help fight crime, according to National Security Minister Gary Griffith.
He told reporters recently that the drones will be used for surveillance and intelligence-gathering, among other things. Government officials expect the drones will focus on the coastal areas of Trinidad & Tobago, located just east of Venezuela.
The twin-island nation of 1.3 million people has struggled with high rates of violent crime fuelled by drug trafficking, especially in the capital of Port-of-Spain.
