Officials are this morning reporting slow progress in quelling the fire at the Mangrove Landfill, in St Thomas.
“This is going to be a slow process and a long process,” said one official.
The fire started last night, triggered by burning tyres.
The official said the tyres were still burning at the landfill, adding that the weather was not helping the situation. He said a south east wind blowing was proving to be a challenge for those battling the blaze.
Attorney General Adriel Brathwaite was at the site early today, as well as businessman Sir Charles Williams, whose business is involved in transporting the mould which would help fight the flames.
Officials are also reportedly looking into the possibility of opening a polyclinic to handle any health concerns of the nearby Arch Hall residents.
The access road to the dump is also still closed.
