Hymnspeak 2011 played out against constant hallelujahs at the St Mary’s Church, The City, last night.
A musical production of Barbados Gospelfest, Hymnspeak is about singing mainly traditional Anglican hymns featuring the Hymnspeak choir under the direction of musical director Reverend Mikie Roberts.
Musical accompaniment was provided by John Bryan on organ, the Brass Ensemble led by Bernard Yearwood and Combo, by James Morgan. Also performing were the Bethel Chimers under the direction of Linda Rock, while Lynette Taylor, of Covenant Life Teaching Centre, led several gripping dramatisations about everyday challenges.
Leandro Layne, on violin, and Cherise Roberts, on flute, also contributed to the awesome night. Hymnspeak was more than a service of song, it was an occasion for people to throw themselves “at the feet of the Cross”; a time for soul searching and spiritual rejuvenation among the audience comprised of people of varying ages.
