THE BARBADIAN contingent to the Chelsea Show has done it again, capturing Barbados’ 15th gold at the annual flower show held in London.
An elated Jennifer Weetch, coordinator of the Barbados exhibit for the first time, told MIDWEEK NATION that it was wonderful to have captured gold for the Barbados Horticultural Society, adding that Barbados was one of the Caribbean islands to do so.
Barbados’ floral presentation was entitled Into The Light and it captured all aspects of darkness moving into light through colour, style, movement and positioning of flora in varying textures and proportions.
Several members of the British Royal Family attended a preview of the show as part of the royal patronage of the Royal Horticultural Society.
Weetch said Queen Elizabeth was attracted to the colour of the Caribbean presentations when she passed by the exhibits.
The Chelsea Flower Show is attended by 157 000 visitors each year.
New plants are often launched at the show, the layout for which is similar to a catwalk at a fashion show. (JS)
