THE WEST INDIES had to settle for a 1-1 share of the two-match Digicel Test cricket series against Pakistan when they lost the second Test by 196 runs at Warner Park here Tuesday.
Resuming the fifth and final day on 130 for five after being set an improbable 427 for victory, the West Indies lost their last five wickets for exactly 100 runs as they crashed to 230 all out in their second innings, 15 minutes before lunch.
Vice-captain Brendan Nash did not add to his overnight score of 30 while wicketkeeper Carlton Baugh was out for 18.
Skipper Darren Sammy hit six fours in an attacking 41 off 51 balls but there was no prolong resistance from the lower order.
Pacer Ravi Rampaul lashed two fours and two sixes in a breezy 20 but the end came when Kemar Roach was run out for 12 by a direct throw from Wahab Riaz, backing up too far at the non-striker’s end.
Left-arm spinner Abdur Rehman was Pakistan’s most successful bowler with four for 65 and off-spinner Saeed Ajmal, who was named Man of the Series, took three for 79 to carry his tally to 17.
West Indies had won the first Test in Guyana by 40 runs.
SCORES: Pakistan 272 and 377-6 dec’d; West Indies 223 and 230.
