Stafanie Taylor is confident that the West Indies Women will qualify for the 2013 Women’s World Cup in India.
West Indies Women will be one of ten sides taking part in the WWC qualifier to be staged from November 14 to 26 in the Bangladeshi capital Dhaka.
The top four sides in the competition will qualify for the global tournament being staged for the third time in two years.
“We’ve been preparing well, doing both fitness and psychology training, and I feel we have got a good grounding ahead of Dhaka,” Taylor told ICC Media.
“The girls are looking well and our fitness has definitely improved, which was a key goal for us ahead of this tour.”
The ICC Women’s Player Of The Year added: “We need to make sure we are fully prepared for this event because we all want to qualify for the WWC.
“The camp we’ve been participating in for the last week and a half has definitely been a great confidence booster.”
West Indies have been drawn in Group B along with Pakistan, Ireland, Japan and hosts Bangladesh.
“We faced Ireland and Pakistan at the Women’s Cricket Challenge and in bilateral series, but Japan and Bangladesh are both unknown entities to us and they are certainly not teams we can take for granted,” she said.
“I think we can expect conditions to be similar to India, where we recently toured, with the temperature, pitches and conditions to be the same.
“I’ve not spoken to anyone on the men’s side who [are touring] Bangladesh about conditions, but I’m sure some of my teammates have spoken to their friends in the men’s side for tips.
“I’m also confident that our coach Sherwin Campbell will prepare us fully,” Taylor added.West Indies face Ireland in their opening match on November 14. (CMC)
