VENDORS AT CHEAPSIDE Market were locked out today due to a problem with the facility’s main water inlet.
Upset vendors told the SATURDAY SUN the problem had been identfied Thursday morning and it should have been fixed before today since Fridays were good for sales.
Market Superintendent Gregory Payne said that the Barbados Water Authority attempted to rectify the problem last night but they were unsuccessful.
Some of the vendors sold their goods in front the market.
“It is hard on us. This is a whole day we are losing sales. We have our bills to pay. We can’t afford to be losing our weekend sales.
“If the problem was looked at since last night we would have been back in the market,” Hazel Alleyne said.
Angela Greene complained: “It hurting my heart that my best customers coming to look at me and just walk away. I feel bad. I feel real bad. I got people that I trust from to pay. I can’t face them now; I got to hide from them.”
The Barbados Workers’ Union’s communications specialist Joy-Ann Haigh said that an official press release on the problem would be issued as soon as possible. (AH)
