It will be the final dash for points when drivers take on each other in the Motoring Club Barbados Inc.’s (MCBI) speed event from Colleton to Woodland, St John on Sunday starting at 10 a.m.
President David Williams said the club had staggered the starting time to allow easy access to church-goers and pointed out that only the road course being used would be affected by the day’s action.
“We have the traffic plan designed in such a way that little or no disruption should be experienced by the travelling public and we expect to have a keenly contested event as it is the final one for the current season,” Williams told WEEKENDSPORT.
He said the club was expecting around 24 drivers to face the starter as it would be the last chance they would have to improve the points in their respective groups as well as the overall championship.
Jamal Brathwaite, who will be in the Carib/Electrical Solutions/Chicken Pen Racing Mitsubishi Mirage is leading the championship. He finished second to Neil Corbin in last Sunday’s single venue Barbados Rally Club’s (BRC) Winter Rally and will be looking to put the title beyond the reach of other drivers with a win in Modified 6.
One of the closest drivers to Brathwaite in the race for the overall title is experienced former club champion John Corbin, who will be driving the Corbin’s Garage/Klark-Odio Toyota.
The long and twisting four-kilometre course is expected to bring out the best in the drivers, who will be allowed one practise run and three official runs as they put the final touches to their respective points for the 2011 group and overall championship.
