GOVERNMENT’S DECISION to slash Drainage Unit jobs on New Year’s Eve has left the National Union of Public Workers (NUPW) with “a grief lump”.
General secretary Dennis Clarke says it’s a combination of people being on the breadline in very tough times, the “ripple effect” the job cuts will have across households, and Government’s failure to hold off on the retrenchment until
it had fully explored the union’s recommendations for reducing a multimillion dollar deficit.
“It’s like a grief lump,” he told the DAILY NATION yesterday.
