Potential Club salutes achievers

Shane Thomas took the top award when the Potential Ballers Youth and Sports Club held their first awards ceremony, recognizing achievements in football and netball, at the St Christopher Primary School.
Thomas won the Spirit Of Potential award, which was donated by club sponsor Wilfred Abrahams, the Barbados Labour Party candidate for the Christ Church East constituency.
The award is given to the “member who encompassed the Potential characteristics of cooperation, teamwork, dedication, fair-mindedness, decisiveness, dependability and tactfulness and also someone who inspires his or her fellow teammates”.
The football players ended the season on a high by capping third place with 51 points in the Gordon Douglas Zone of the Barbados Football Association’s Third Division.
The Best Defender award went to Akeel Jones, who also copped the Captain’s Award and the Most Disciplined Player prize. Jamar Harewood was adjudged the Best Goalkeeper and Most Valuable Player.
Most Goals went to Keron Simon; the Best Midfielder was Gabriel Layne; Cameron Lewis was Best Striker and Christopher Jones the Most Improved Player.
The netballers also had an eventful season, placing second in the Gabby Scott Zone of the Barbados Workers’ Union (BWU) Netball Competition in their very first outing.
Kelli Conliffe was named Best Shooter; Shanice Bovell the Best Goal Attack and Lisa Lashley Coach Of The Zone.
The Dedication award went to Donavan Callender.
During the programme, there were addresses by the president, coach and Abrahams. (PR)
