BDFSP hold off UWI

Runaway LIME Elite Division champions Sagicor UWI had to settle for a draw against the Barbados Defence Force Sports Programme as captain Mario Rampersaud batted stoutly for 94 minutes to save his side from defeat against a team that was hoping to achieve an eighth win in nine matches.
Chasing an impossible target of 470 for victory, the BDFSP moved from 145 for six to 148 for nine with two of the mandatory 15 overs remaining, plus time for another three overs. Rampersaud manoeuvred the strike well to face most of the deliveries before a sharp shower brought an end to play with another over remaining.
Leg-spinner Akeem Dewar took three for 40 to finish with a season-high 52 wickets.
Earlier UWI resumed from 118 for three to reach 211 for seven declared.
Floyd Reifer, who reached 10 000 runs at this level the previous day, moved from 42 to 55 while Anthony Alleyne went from 19 to 42.
However, it was a well played 52 not out by Jonathan Carter that was the high point of the innings, with Carter reaching 648 runs for the season to be the leading run-scorer.
UWI, who were confirmed champions for the fourth consecutive season after the previous series of matches, ended with 146 points – 47 more than second-placed ICBL Empire.
