US blogger takes a swipe at Barbados

Barbados has been given “dishonourable mention” by a Miami-based maritime lawyer and blogger who has listed “the world’s most dangerous” cruise destinations.
While not naming the island as among the top ten “most dangerous”, James M. Walker, in his Cruise Law News blog Monday, reproduced a list of places in the Caribbean where visitors were likely to be victims of crime.
Barbados, the Cayman Islands and St Maarten were among the “dishonourable mentions”. This country was cited as a result of last year’s incident involving the shooting of two British cruise ship visitors in Barbados.
His information was extracted from a 2013 Global Study On Homicide released by the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime which listed 10 Countries With The World’s Highest Murder Rates.
Countries named in his top ten – where he claimed there was rampant crime against cruise passengers – were (with the worst first): The Bahamas, Honduras, Venezuela, Guatemala, Mexico, St Kitts/Nevis, Antigua, United States Virgin Islands, El Salvador and St Lucia. (GC)
