THE?ONLY?thing Terry Emmerson Haynes could mutter when asked why he should be given bail was that he had to maintain the work on his farm.
The 35 year-old farmer was before the District “A”?Magistrate Court today charged with cultivating 2 346 marijuana plants, unlawfully having the drug, having it with intent to supply and trafficking.
He was not required to plead to the indictable offences.
Pointing out that the plants had a street value of $126 000, Prosecutor Station Sergeant Ensley Grainger, objected to bail for Haynes telling the court that he had antecedents of a similar nature and that he feared if granted bail Haynes would not submit himself to the court to answer the charges.
When Magistrate Douglas Frederick asked Haynes to respond to the no bail application he stared blankly at the prosecutor and mumbled: “to maintain my work as a farmer.”
However, the Magistrate remanded the Welch Village, St John resident to prison until April 29, when he will appear at the District “B” Magistrate Court.
The marijuana plants were discovered when the police carried out an operation at St Patrick’s Christ Church on Friday. (MB)
