BARBADOS LAUNCHED an all-embracing accounting system today which will help Government track spending in the health sector and provide the sort of information that could lead to more impactful policy decisions.
The system is called the National Health Accounts (NHA) and is based on a framework developed by the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development, the World Health Organisation and other agencies – the System of Health Accounts (SHA).
Minister of Health John Boyce, addressing a launching workshop at Savannah Beach Hotel, said the data generated by the system would assist policymakers in making informed decisions on health care.
The NHA could also be key in helping Government trim wastage in the health sector, he indicated.
The workshop heard that the system, which calls for wide-ranging data collection and processing, would provide answers to questions such as how much is spent on health care and precisely who benefits. (TY)
