ST. JOHN’S – LIAT’s Cargo hub in Antigua now provides maximum protection for temperature-sensitive cargo thanks to its acquisition of a state-of-the art container refrigeration system.
This expansion in service brings Antigua in line with its hubs at Trinidad, Barbados and stations in St. Maarten, Santo Domingo and Puerto Rico.
Virgin Atlantic Cargo and Amerijet are two of LIAT’s interline partners who have already expressed their pleasure knowing that their perishables transferring at Antigua will have guaranteed protection in case of delays or other unforeseen disruptions.
It also has a non-ozone-depleting compressor system which emphasizes LIAT’s concern for the environment. Antigua is a major LIAT connecting point for regional and international flights.
“We are delighted that our new refrigeration system ups our air cargo game and very well pleased that it is also so environmentally friendly,” said Wilbur Edwards, LIAT’s Executive Manager for Cargo and Quikpak services.
The Carrier ThinLine unit combines maximum capacity and airflow with pinpoint temperature control, to ensure protection throughout the load. It also has a non-ozone-depleting compressor system which emphasizes LIAT’s concern for the environment. Antigua is a major LIAT connecting point for regional and international flights.
Shippers can now use Antigua as a preferred connecting point confident that their perishable goods will be protected and that the new refrigeration facility will be available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The availability contrasts with most of the other stations where opening hours for such services are limited and with weekend operations completely out of the equation. (PR)
