Call for guards at clinics

The National Union of Public Workers (NUPW) wants security guards posted at all health institutions and police assistance at the Six Roads, St Philip polyclinic.
In light of incidents involving people entering the polyclinic with weapons, NUPW acting deputy general secretary Roslyn Smith said yesterday that, after a meeting with the nurses, the union would ask the Royal Barbados Police Force to reactivate its outpost at Six Roads.
“We had a meeting and concerns were expressed by the nurses there. We’re therefore trying to see if we can get the police outpost restarted because a number of Government officers work in that area, including the Public Library and market staff, the environmental health officers and those at the polyclinic.
“They need the outpost as a back-up in light of increased criminal activity,” Smith said.
