There were more than 1 000 applications for the approximately 500 available spaces in sixth form schools.
Acting Deputy Chief Education Officer Erwin Greaves told the DAILY NATION yesterday that there was a “flood” of applications from students, and that most of the allocations had been made.
Greaves said there were 120 places each at Harrison College, Queen’s College, Combermere and The Lodge, and the new complement at Christ Church Foundation and The St Michael offered approximately 60 spots each.
He said the ministry was in the process of determining how many of the 1 000 were accepted at the Barbados Community College (BCC) and subsequently enrolled. This is with a view to finding places for students still waiting to be allocated.
