PARENTS ARE BEING IMPLORED to be vigilant, supportive and watchful in every way as their children go into secondary school.
They are being encouraged to take note that the transition from primary to secondary school is the second most difficult transition in a child’s life, the first one being the entry into formal education.
This was the word from senior psychologist in the Student Support Services unit in the Ministry of Education, Juanita Brathwaite, as she delivered the feature address, during the opening ceremony of Camp Transition at The St Michael School yesterday.
Speaking to the campers who recently sat the Common Entrance Examination and their parents, Brathwaite said that oftentimes parents did not recognize the difficulty in the transition, treating it as just another phase in their charges’ lives.
However, the psychologist noted that the process should be treated with priority, noting that it was a cultural shock for a child.
