A NEW FORMAT, including job performance and the traditional “last in, first out”, has been agreed on to determine lay-offs at the Transport Board.
Following a meeting with Transport Board management and the Barbados Workers’ Union (BUW) yesterday at Solidarity House, an invitation will be extended to employees who are interested in voluntary redundancy, followed by those who qualify and opt for early retirement from the state-run statutory corporation.
In a media statement, the board said the four-step procedure would also include employees who had medical challenges and poor attendance records as well as those whose performance had been unsatisfactory during their employment.
The board added that while various cost reduction procedures were outlined “it was agreed that separation of some employees must occur”.
