STICK TO WHAT YOU are good at – healing bodies!
That was the advice of construction magnate Sir Charles Williams to retired medical educator Senator Professor Henry Fraser after the latter came out against a proposal from Government for the construction of a new general hospital to replace the half-century-old Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH).
In a weekend interview with the DAILY NATION, Sir Charles said that what was needed to get Barbados out of the current economic slump were ideas from people with vision “who can see things down the road”. With a new hospital, he added, Barbados could position itself to earn substantial foreign exchange by attracting patients from all over the Caribbean, who now opt for Martinique or the United States.
“I?am greatly disappointed in Professor Fraser,” Sir Charles said. “There is no doubt that he has done a tremendous service for his country as a doctor and I would never suggest otherwise. When it comes of preserving Barbados’ heritage I can only say that I admired his work greatly.
