The Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH) responded to a call at 4:07pm that an accident occurred at Mullins, St. James involving a yellow minibus.  The Incident Command at the QEH, was activated shortly after.
There were 19 passengers involved in the accident and the driver had to be extricated from the vehicle. There was one infant, a 17month old baby involved in the accident, however the child is showing no obvious signs of injury. As of 5:36 pm the advanced medical post at the scene reported 5 critically injured, 4 severely injured and 11 with minor injuries.  Injuries consist of head trauma, chest, neck and abdominal trauma.
Currently patients are being transported to the QEH in a collaborated effort via QEH ambulances, Barbados Defence Force ambulances, Red Cross ambulances, private ambulances and the transport board.
Dr Dexter James, chief executive officer, QEH and incident commander, commended the Emergency Ambulance Response team and the Accident & Emergency staff for their expeditious response to the mass casualty event.
