Barbados’ swimmers returned to the island on Monday from the Goodwill Swim meet in Suriname laden with plenty of silverware.The Bajans placed third at the meet, behind hosts Suriname and Trinidad and Tobago, capturing a total of 52 medals – seven gold, 13 silver and 32 bronze. Overall, Barbados’ younger generation of swimmers set two Goodwill meet records and seven Barbados national age-group records. Damon St Prix was one of the standout swimmers with three gold, two silver and three bronze medals, along with Tiffany Titus bringing home six medals.St Prix established a Goodwill meet record in the short-course 100 metres freestyle and two Barbados 9-10 national age-group records in the 100 metres freestyle and the 50 metres backstroke. St Prix teamed up with Lui Sebastian, Nicholas Hall, and Kent Mulin to set two Barbados relay records in the 9-10 boys’ 4 x 50 medley and in the 4 x 50 medley relay.Charise Mason, who captured six medals, set a meet record in the 50 metres freestyle and two Barbados eight-and-under national records in the 100 metres freestyle and the 50 metres freestyle. Mason, along with Destiny Harding, Danielle Titus and Kayla Smith, established a Barbados national age-group eight-and-under relay record in the 4 x 50 medley relay.Some of the other top performers were Vanessa Keany (six medals), Gabriel Gumby (five), Harding (five), Rhea Babb (five), Chenise King (four), Hannah Gill (four), Alex Sobers (four) Zandel Holder (four), Brandon Thompson (four), and Rebecca Clarke (three).
