FORMER Caribbean Volleyball Championships queens Barbados will have to fight for the bronze medal for the second time in 18 years.Yesterday, they lost their semi-final match to defending champions Trinidad and Tobago at the 13th CVC in Paramaribo, Suriname, yesterday.Trinidad and Tobago ensured that they continued their unbeaten run against Barbados – which started after 2002 – by coming from a set down to win the battle 21-25, 25-23, 25-20, 25-18.   The girls from the land of the hummingbird are now poised to match Barbados’ three-peat of CVC titles.Barbados stuck to the game plan of blocking strong and attacking stronger. However, after being stung with the first-set loss, Trinidad and Tobago started playing a cautious game and, amazingly, Barbados also started playing cautiously, which allowed the opponents to storm back and clinch the game.Ironically, the only time that Barbados did not play in a women’s CVC final was in 1996 in the United States Virgin Islands when Trinidad and Tobago captured their first title.  On that occasion, what was regarded as Barbados’ most outstanding line-up had to settle for bronze.
