St Peter residents have been assured that they will not be denied access to Heywoods Beach when the multimillion-dollar Sandals Beaches hotel is completed.
Parliamentary representative for St Peter and Government Minister Colin Jordan joined Sandals Resorts International director of corporate services Jeremy Jones in seeking to allay the fears of residents attending a town hall meeting at St Peter’s Parish Church Thursday night, at which several concerns were aired.
“Beaches in Barbados are public property from the high-water mark. They will remain so once this Government remains in office. That is our stated position. It is a position that we will defend aggressively if we had to,” Jordan said in response to questions posed by Speightstown “lifetime resident” Ian Babb.
Babb asked about public beach access and possible harassment of residents by hotel security guards and the impact the development could have on flooding in the Heywoods area. (GC)
